When one begins to search for the zodiacal forces in the body and to observe them in motion, one is already on the way to eurythmy. The name: Eurythmy means harmony (Eu‑) in the play of opposites (‑ rythmia).

Opposite signs are polarities, they reinforce each other. Each pole needs the other to be in balance. Each pole is the spiritual father of the other and vice versa. Libra is the inverted Aries, and the hard Capricorn kneecap has the soft Cancer knee cavity on its back. The air is the opponent of fire, the earth the opponent of water. But air fuels fire and warmth sets air in motion.

Therefore: polarity is not only a dividing but also a connecting and liberating principle. The interaction of polarities is fruitful and creative. If one does not directly produce the qualities and effects of a sign, but takes the detour via the polar sign, each side can develop its full potential and bring it to effect even more harmoniously.

This can be experienced impressively in eurythmy.
